Osteopontin (OPN) is also sometimes called urinary stone protein, it has molecular mass between 44-66kDa depending on its state of glycosylation and phosphorylation. OPN is a glycosylated acidic calcium-binding phosphoprotein, it also consist of a conserved Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) amino acid sequence. Osteopontin is found to be released by a number of different cells for example osteoblasts, macrophages, kidney tubule cells, vascular smooth muscle cells and activated T cells.
